The classroom is open again after lying dormant for 18 months. To make the space ready for more learning about food and farming, Katie Vining (Discover Farming Education Co-ordinator) and Jo Sage (Society Director) gave the inside of the classroom a much-needed coat of paint. A wall-mounted screen was also added to the classroom to enable clips to be shown alongside the learning activities. Outside, a food van complete with cooker and cooking equipment is now in position and available to be used for cooking-based lessons. A lovely outdoor space has been created with picnic benches to enable healthy meals to be cooked from the freshest of fresh produce. Planting boxes are going to be installed around the perimeter so children can see plants growing alongside the classroom as well as in the growing fields at Washingpool Farm.
Katie has so far this term welcomed children from Salway Ash, Winterbourne Abbas, St.Catherine’s Primary Schools, and even Charmouth cubs working towards their chef’s badge!
