In September 2022 we hosted our first Discover Farming Expert Day at Washingpool Farm aimed at the upper end of Primary schools, Key Stage 2, in particular years 5 and 6.
The experts for the day were a chef, an agronomist, a wildlife expert and an author. They were asked to create a 45-minute activity that would excite and engage the children with the crops, produce, livestock and landscape around them.
In total 71 children took part from 3 different schools: Symondsbury, Salway Ash and St.Mary’s. The feedback from the children was really positive with one child commenting when asked what they had learnt that; “I learnt that a potato grew under the ground, in the soil.”
The day was deemed a success by both staff and children. We plan to run a similar day in September 2023.
