Protecting our planet and securing our future is a global challenge for us all. To ensure Young Farmer Clubs and our rural communities are here for generations to come, the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs (NFYFC) has set up YFC Operation Green which is calling on all Young Farmer Clubs to pledge to take part.
Working with the Environment Agency, the NFYFC is asking YFCs and County Federations to organise a project in their local community that positively contributes to improving the natural environment. The project has been supported by NatWest as part of the build up to National Young Farmers’ Week 2021 (October 25-29th).
One idea is for YFCs to help rid the countryside of litter. Litter is a huge problem in the countryside – especially following the increased number of visitors to green spaces during the pandemic. YFCs can help to do something about it and support their local communities by organising litter picks, cleaning up local areas, cleaning signage, improving areas such as the village hall or planting trees and improving natural habitats.
YFCs are encouraged to work with local schools or other youth groups to develop their projects which will also be a great way to strengthen community links. Advice and further information is available from the NFYFC website.
