School Visits

Pigs at Washingpool Farm

Classroom @ Washingpool

We have a dedicated classroom space for you to use during the day, thanks to the Melplash Show Discover Farming project and Dorset County Council.   The classroom is located at Washingpool Farm Shop just outside Bridport on the B3162 heading towards Salway Ash in Dorset (DT6 5HP).

We welcome visits from schools, local clubs and youth organisations and visits are open to all age groups.  Each visit can be tailored to meet the individual school’s requirements.  We only book in one visit per day and we run activities in the morning then you are welcome to have your picnic in the classroom or on the lawn.  In the afternoon we offer further activities, these can be discussed and agreed with your group leader before your visit.  To book a visit please click here for our booking form.

Costs

The cost of school visits are subsidised by the Melplash Agricultural Society.  The cost for up to 30 children is £50 per day.  Due to the subsidy given by the Society the cost is reduced to £40 for schools who visit from within a 15 mile radius of Melplash Church.  Full day visits include welcome, morning sessions/activities, snack (fruit and water for children, tea/coffee/cold drink for adults), animal feed and any take-home items made during the visit. Use of facilities include: classroom, play area, lawns and pond walk.

Pre-school visits: 1 hour feeding the animals and looking at growing fields/polytunnels followed by activities in the classroom.  Snack (fruit/water) included. £20 per visit, maximum 30 children plus required number of adult supervisors.

All prices include VAT.

Transport

The Society has also negotiated a reduced transport fee with Damory Coaches and will pay half of these costs (to a maximum of £67.50).
